It all started with a Rusty Hinge...

Let me begin by telling you a little bit about myself and why the blog name Rusty Hinge...

I am a 30 year old who loves all things decorating, gardening, antiques, linens, flea markets... let's just say if it has chippy paint, I love it!

I am married to my wonderful husband, Karl, of soon to be five years.  He is very tolerant of my love for rusty and chippy treasures, although I do get rolled eyes when I beg him to stop by the side of the road for "junque" and garage sale signs.

I grew up on a small dairy farm in the country, and when you are surrounded by nothing but fields you get kind of used to the open spaces, so my husband and I moved out of the nearby town and into our hundred year old farmhouse in farm country.  I love it's charm and character.  I can't wait to share pictures!  We have not been blessed with children yet, but we pray some day soon!

So why Rusty Hinge?  You all probably love and remember the decorating magazines such as Country Home, Home Companion, and Country Living...  well, when I was younger, I remember the first time I got my hands on a Country Home magazine and opened it.  I instantly fell in love with the pictures of country homes and the distressed furniture.  Some day, my home would look like that!  I know all of you can relate!  I began to collect stacks of decorating magazines given by my aunt and cut out favorite pictures.  One of the pictures was a rusty hinge repurposed into a napkin holder.

One day my dad surprised me with an old rusty hinge that he pulled off the wooden door of our old red hay barn.  It was perfect!  Thank-you, Dad!

That old barn has since been taken down but I still have memories of sleepovers and hay forts in the barn loft and I still use my old hinge to catch my linen napkins (and wait until I show you the bench that my husband made for me out of the old barn beams!)

 

 

So there you have it... the story behind the title!
